INCONVENIENT TRUTH MOVIE

This movie is a documentary about the global warming and the facts about the earth we live in. The movie gives a definition of global warming as follows. Earth is surrounded by a thin layer known as atmosphere which absorbs the sun beams to maintain the temperature of the earth. But it is so thin so that its composition can be changed very easily which is mainly caused by green house gases. As the thickness of the atmosphere increases, the sun rays are not reflected back and the temperature of our earth increases. This increase in temperature of the earth is called global warming.

Now due to this global warming, the amount of CO2 present in the atmosphere increases each and every year. Each and every year the amount of carbon-di-oxide in the atmosphere kept on increasing. The increase in the amount of CO2 has led to many serious issues. The Kilimanjaro mount which was completely filled with ice during the 1980’s started melting and now it is almost done. A number of ice glaciers were melted and they are few in count now. During the previous ice ages, the amount of CO2 has not gone beyond 300 parts per million. But now the amount of CO2 is gone more than 600 parts per million. Because of this rise in CO2 concentration, the temperature of the earth also increased to a greater extent.

Due to these changes to the atmosphere, there have been a number of calamities such as hurricanes. Hurricane Katrina was the deadliest and most destructive in the Atlantic Hurricane season of the year 2005. Now-a-days the sea-ice extent has been depleted to a greater extent which causes the global warming to a greater extent which is given as follows. When the sun rays fall on the ice glaciers 90 per cent of them are reflected back and maintains the earth’s temperature. But now the glaciers are melting at a greater extent and because of it the sun rays just fall on the ocean and increase the temperature of the earth. Because of this, the polar bears do not find ice and they have to swim a long distance to find ice.

These are some of the main discussions in the documentary. The rate at which the amount of CO2 and the temperature of the earth are increasing might lead to a greater extent of global warming. Thus steps needs to be taken to reduce the global warming which is a major threat to the earth.
