EVS Activity: PALLIKARANAI AND VANDALUR TRIP

The day was planned to visit two places: Pallikaranai Marsh lands and Vandalur Zoo. First, we visited the Pallikaranai Marsh lands.

PALLIKARANAI MARSH LANDS:

Perungudi is the place where all the wastes of the city are dumped which is extended till Pallikaranai. Due to dumping of these wastes, the marsh lands around Pallikaranai got reduced. Have a look at the picture below.

We can see a lot of wastes that are dumped over a vast area. Because of these dumping the marsh lands that are present near the Pallikaranai got affected. Now lets see some more pictures how the marsh lands got affected because of the wastes.

If this trend goes on, in a few years the marsh lands might get vanished. These wet lands are capable of making the ground water level at a good level. But if these wetlands starts vanishing, there might a serious problems to the beings that are dependent on the wetlands, and it might be a serious threat to the ground water level.

After finishing the visit to Pallikaranai marsh lands, we went to Vandulur and we had our lunch in a hotel which is nearby Vandalur. Then we went inside the zoo.

VANDALUR ZOO:

This is the place where we could find a lot of creatures that are very few in number in our country. There are lots of different kinds of monkeys, deer, fishes, etc. There is a lake which is a fantastic place for lot of birds. There were different varieties of birds and there was a place for the birds to roam freely within a given range. There were birds like cranes which has huge nets for breeding. There were animals like Lion, Tiger, White Tiger, Cheetah, and a snake park is also there. Some of the snapshots of the creatures that are present in Vandalur are given below:
